I have now been in Rotterdam for 3 months and I have to say that one of my favorite foods is a good hamburger. After living in London and spending a lot of time in Panama recently, I was able to get to know all the best places to eat hamburgers throughout the city and I have decided since I still have almost a year left here, I am on a mission to find the best hamburgers in Rotterdam.
Ter Marsch & Co
This was one of the most highly recommended restaurants for hamburgers as it won the best burger in the Netherlands in 2014 and 2015! This bar/restaurant opened its doors in 1890 and initially started as a shop that sold good meet, now it is one of the most popular restaurants located on the Witte de Withstraat! Reservation is not possible (the only downside) but if you arrive early you can have a drink or two at the bar whilst you wait for your table. The restaurant is small with limited seating but it is very cozy and is always busy!
When it came to ordering I of course ordered the winning burger for 2015 which has some of my favorite ingredients like winter truffle! (Don’t want to give it all away). I also ordered a portion of fries with truffle Mayo, it was delicious!
Burger Trut
Burger Trut is located next to the Markthal near Blaakstation; the restaurant is actually in a corner and can easily be missed! One of the best things about this restaurant is its vintage décor and its down to earth ambience. If you are a vegetarian or like to experiment with your hamburgers, this is the place for you! Burger Trut has a wide selection of vegetarian burgers, specials and of course beef burgers. I ordered a beef burger (I am a meat loved) and it was mouthwatering! If you eat a lot I recommend choosing a side dish of fries or salad but for me the burger was more than enough.
It is the perfect place to go with a group of friends as they have long tables and good service.
Firma Pickles
Firma Pickles- Burgers & Wine is a restaurant quite close to Burger Trut and is located inside the Markthal (can also be accessible through the outside). One of the benefits of this restaurant is that it is located in one of Rotterdam’s landmarks (and my favorite food market). As the name may suggest they are famous for their burgers, which they have a vast variety of and a large sections that allows for extra toppings as well as the extensive wine list. They have another restaurant location in Utrecht as well as food trucks that sell their burgers in different cities in the Netherlands.
