For many people, there can be few more exciting things to do while away from home than to visit a palace – and in Lausanne there is a truly special one that is simply not to be missed. The Beau-Rivage Palace is not just a hotel, but a wonderful visitor destination in its own right. Whether spending a night there or eating out, it is a truly opulent and magnificent building with furnishings and decor to match.

And if that does not confirm its status as one of Europe’s finest hotels, the magnificent and constantly advancing interior certainly does, with the most recent development being the refurbishment of the Palace Wing. Its location is also a wonder to behold, set in four acres of gardens on the shores of Lake Geneva, just a few minutes away from the city centre. Dining at the hotel is a gastronomic treat of the highest order. There are no less than six restaurants to choose from, so whatever your culinary tastes, they are likely to be catered for here. Try fine dining at the Anne-Sophie Pic, which has two Michelin stars and an eponymous chef who has three. Or sample the varied lakeside menus at the CafĂ© Beau-Rivage. The Miyako Lausanne serves traditional Japanese dishes with sashimi and sushi, L’accademia offers excellent Italian food with fine wines, La Terrasse serves al fresco buffet breakfasts and O terrasse offers gourmet meals later in the day, overlooking the lake.
For those staying at the hotel, there are some fantastic packages on offer. Try a romantic weekend for two in a superior or a deluxe room with champagne, strawberries, chocolates amid an atmosphere of privacy and candlelight. Alternatively, enjoy the spa package with complimentary access to the wellness centre and fitness suites, or go on the ultimate gastronomic adventure with the Discovery Package, ideal for food and wine lovers. Whichever package you choose, there is no doubt your stay will be a truly palatial one.
