New Year’s resolutions come true at The Scotsman

If you are anything like us, then you will have spent January 1st writing a list and making promises to yourself: This year I will eat well, I will join the gym, and so on and so forth. Regardless of our best intentions, come January 5th we were tucking into a pizza, forsaking all salad, and had lost all motivation to use the expensive gym membership we had set up. Should this sound familiar, we have a suggestion that might just do the trick! Why not go on a weekend break away to refresh yourself and stop bad habits from creeping back in? The Scotsman in Edinburgh is the ideal hotel to head to.

Originally the Scotsman Newspaper building, there are 69 quirky and unique boutique rooms to choose from, all of which offer some of the most comfortable beds you shall ever experience – perfect after a day spent at the hotel’s state of the art gym and spa. Located in the original press room, The Scotsman Spa and Health Club is modern luxury at its best. Start your day with a healthy breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant, the North Bridge Brasserie, opting for the selection of fresh fruit with some yoghurt, a smoothie or some Scottish salmon to ensure your body has all the vitamins and nutrients it needs.

Once your breakfast has had time to settle, head to the gym. Here, you can find a great selection of cardio, core conditioning and muscle strengthening equipment. Make sure you do some stretches and get your heart rate going on the cross trainer before deciding what kind of workout it is you want to do. If you need any help, do not hesitate to ask a member of staff – they will have all the answers for you. You can even opt for a personal trainer or join a fitness class! If you’re a bit like us and exercise isn’t your idea of a fun day, just keep in mind that once your workout is over, the best bit is yet to come. Have a quick shower then head to The Scotsman Spa where you can really unwind and relax.

Take a dip in the pool before soaking in the jacuzzi and sitting in the sauna and steam room, which are the perfect places to rid your body of any toxins. After your day of fitness and relaxation, go for a leisurely walk around the city itself and take in its wonderful sights.
