The Sofitel Luxembourg Le Grand Ducal is a grand five-star hotel with some superb facilities; and yet it is much more than that. For a start, it has what is almost certainly the best view in the city. The vista includes the Petrusse Valley as it snakes through the heart of the city, as well as the historic heart of Luxembourg. From here it is immediately evident what charm and splendour there is to see, and inevitably visitors will feel utterly inspired to get out there and see it all. However, the view is not everything.
After all, there can be many hotels from which much can be seen, but the features in question are not that close. With the Sofitel, however, getting to the best the city has to offer is easy. From here, the city centre is very close at hand and is also extremely handy for connecting with transport facilities, such as the railway station with its TGV trains. The capital’s many banks and international institutions are also close by, making it ideal for business travellers. For the tourist, there is a wealth of cultural, historic and artistic heritage almost on the doorstep. This includes the Bock Casemates, the fortress that was once one of the most formidable and defendable in the world. The myriad of artworks at the Musee d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean, the Drai Eechelen Museum and the Bank Museum are also close at hand. And if you want to shop til you drop, the country’s biggest shopping street – Rue des Capucins – is also within easy reach. With so much in view or conveniently easy to visit, it might be tempting to forget all the great facilities this 128-room hotel has.
Each of these is utterly luxurious, and while there are five different types of room to choose from, each of them features a king-size bed to ensure the most comfortable sleep imaginable. The food is also outstanding, with chef Sebastien Perrot offering magnificent menus on the TopFloor restaurant, while there is nowhere better to enjoy a cocktail than at the CocoMango. Both venues have outstanding views from the top of the hotel across this lovely city.
