Over the past few years, Manchester has firmly established itself not just as a major business hub but also as a leading arts destination. And few venues quite showcase this cultural renaissance quite like ‘HOME’, the new contemporary arts centre located in the heart of the city. Aimed at ‘curiosity seekers, the lovers of the dramatic, radicals and reciprocators’, the multi-purpose venue attracts some of Europe’s finest artists to the north of England. Since it was formed through a merger of the Cornerhouse, a long-time favourite of the Manchester independent arts scene, and the Greater Manchester Arts Centre (GMAC), it has played host to some of Europe’s biggest names whilst also giving visitors the chance to become acquainted with the work of some of Britain’s brightest young stars.
Right throughout the year, HOME plays host to a diverse collection of touring and specially-commissioned exhibitions, ranging from art shows to installations and film screenings. At the same time, it also hosts regular events, including lectures and workshops, all of which can be attended by members of the public. Additionally, HOME boasts its own cafe bar, designed to be either a place to unwind after a show or after exploring the city or, alternatively, a dynamic venue to work from. The leading cultural venue is located right in the heart of Manchester city centre, just across the cobbled ramp from Oxford Road station.
It is also a very short walk from the Palace Theatre, one of the very best stage venues in Manchester. The historic St Peter’s Square, as well as the bars, clubs and restaurants of Deansgate are also just a few minutes away by foot, while the shops of Piccadilly and the boutiques of King Street can be reached in just a few minutes. Also within easy reach is the Bridgewater Hall, built in the 1990s as a boutique venue for the city’s Halle Orchestra, with specially-designed acoustics to ensure the best possible sound transmission.
