There is so much to do in Edinburgh. From the Castle to the Zoo, you are guaranteed to have a fun-filled break when visiting the city. However, make sure that you don’t miss a walk down the Royal Mile, as no trip to Edinburgh is complete until you have done so!
The historic street leading up to the Castle is filled with street entertainers, and the sounds of bagpipes can be heard along the way. If you are looking for some unique shops to visit, then this is the place to be. There are a number of shops selling Scottish goods, including Heritage of Scotland and The Scotland Shop, where you will find a number of fun souvenirs to bring home with you.
Those looking for the ideal dram of whisky will want to head to the number of shops specialising in the drink. Make sure you try The Scotch Whisky Experience, whose shop offers over 300 different malts and is well worth a visit. You can also opt for some tastings to discover which taste you prefer!
The Royal Mile is also the place where you can find a kilt should you wish to invest in the Scottish traditional wear. However, prepare to spend a fair few pennies especially if you get one tailor made. All of the shopping will no doubt leave you parched and hungry, so recharge in one of the many restaurants along the street. If you happen to be at The Whisky Experience, then its restaurant, Amber, is an absolute must! Serving traditional Scottish meals, from smoked salmon to haggis, you can compliment the food with a dram of whisky to really top off the experience!
The Royal McGregor also serves some fine local food and the mussels are to die for! You can try a number of whiskies here too, either as an experience on its own, or with a specially designed three course meal from £38 per person.
There are more restaurants along the Royal Mile and if you just fancy a cocktail or glass of wine instead of a sit down meal, there are also a number of pubs and bars available where you can just sit and unwind, or perhaps start a night out.
