I’m Mark Jones and welcome to the blog for Luxury Hotels Group.
Having worked in hospitality, airlines and travel & tourism across the global for more than 27 years, I have gained a vast knowledge of travel experiences. This privilege allows me to understand the ingredients that make experiences unique and travel memorable. Over the last 10 years I’ve been committed to luxury independent hotels. I’ve represented, assessed, developed, dined in, slept in and marketed some of the most celebrated hotels in the world, as well as those that remain exclusively, luxuriously undiscovered.
Since my early hotel apprenticeship at the Ansett International Hotel in Perth, Australia, and then moving onto Sydney’s first boutique hotel, The Westbury, I seized the opportunity to move into marketing and representing luxury hotels worldwide. Following this, the next 10 years were spent representing airlines such as Virgin Atlantic, Air Canada and Air Mauritius. These airlines provided travel to all corners of the globe, great adventures and insight into all the astonishment travel can bring. Of course, representing major global airlines leaves a lasting impression, but it’s my footprint in Mauritius that affirms for me the quote from Mark Twain that “God created Mauritius and then copied it in heaven”. This is a magical place, an enchanting culture and often my benchmark for unforgettable travel pleasures.
When working for luxury hotels brands such as Preferred Hotel Group, Great Hotels of the World and WorldHotels, my travel trail has covered cities from Tokyo to Edinburgh, from St Petersburg to Los Angeles, from Dubai to Dublin, New Delhi to New York and many places in between. As a result, I’ve witnessed luxury hotels as a traveller, a guest, a marketer, a fan, and now I consider myself to be a connoisseur. With this perspective I’ve created Luxury Hotels Group as a passion and to share great travel experiences together with luxury lifestyle for the delight and exploration of others.
Living in London I have the convenience to continue to travel, discover and share. For those times when I’m at home in London I immerse myself in all the excitement this city radiates. For me luxury can be a day shopping for men’s apparel on Jermyn Street in St James, or dinner at Searcys overlooking London from the top of The Gherkin. It also can be pondering the many varieties of fresh produce at Borough Market, or getting up early on a Sunday morning to get the best of the flowers at Columbia Road. To me luxury isn’t about how something looks, but how it makes you feel. If something makes me smile, that’s a luxury that can’t be bottled or copied. It’s simple and can be enjoyed by all. I hope you enjoy this blog and I hope to give you cause to smile.
