There are many grand venues across the Czech Republic that offer wedding packages, but perhaps the finest choice of all is the most famous palace in Prague. Lobkowicz Palace is the only privately owned part of the Prague Castle complex and a UNESCO world heritage site. Built in the later part of the 16th century by nobleman Jaroslav of Pernstejn, it became home to the Infant Jesus of Prague statue, having been brought there from Spain by Jaroslav’s sister-in-law, Maria Maximiliana Manrique de Lara y Mendoza, who was wife of his brother and chancellor of the Czech kingdom, Vratislav.
The statue now resides in Prague’s Church of Our Lady Victorious. The palace has been the scene of a number of major events in the city’s history, such as the 1618 defenestration of Prague, while it served as the seat of Bohemian power from the 1620s until modern times. It has remained the property of the Lobkowicz family apart from the period between 1939 and 2002, due to its seizure by the Nazis and then the Communists. It was reopened as a museum holding the Lobkowicz family collection in 2007. The grandeur and history of the palace makes it a wonderful place for a wedding. The palace has a varied choice of rooms to accommodate weddings from the most large and lavish to the small and intimate.
Nowhere is better for a spectacular wedding than the 17th century Imperial Hall, where the newlyweds can dine and dance beneath magnificent chandeliers surrounded by walls decorated with frescoed walls and fine paintings. Vows may be taken in the historic chapel or one of the palace rooms, while the whole event will happen in a location with superb panoramic views of the city, particularly from the terrace. For smaller receptions of up to 100 or 120 guests, the Concert Room and The Balcony Room are ideal. With such a wonderful setting and the promise of the most memorable photographic memories, the wedding will be a truly unforgettable event for the newlyweds and guests alike.
