Zermatt is an ideal choice to indulge yourself in a romantic wooden house with superb views of the stunning white landscape. This place has one of the most beautiful and glamorous ski resorts in Europe and its glacier lets you practice this sport all year round. In the summer it has wonderful sunny days and temperatures that make it possible to go hiking and walking through the mountains.
In this little paradise, the cars with combustible engines are not allowed. There are only electric cars or horse-drawn carriages, which makes it not only perfect for relaxing, it safeguards winter driving, and at the same time reduces environmental pollution. However, if you want to bring your own car, you can leave it in Tasch, the previous town, and reach Zermatt by train in a short period of time.

Monte Rosa Hotel is another option to stopover in this exquisite alpine place. The building was built in 1855 and after some modifications to update its structure and facilities; it still keeps its essence the same with a classic style and decorations which will transport you to the 21st century. It is said that Zermatt has the best mountain restaurants in Switzerland and a great example of this is Franz & Heidi’s: a modest hut where fresh oysters – picked in France and provided the same day to Zermatt, and the truffle raviolis accompanied with one of its delicious wines – are a must! On a sunny day, you can enjoy outside all of this on the terrace overlooking the spectacular mountainous scenery.
Another good option is the very popular Fluhalp, located next to the Moraine Glacial restaurant, with its homely interior and spacious sun terrace, where you will be invited to try one of their warm traditional Swiss and Italian dishes.
There are numerous activities you can participate in Zermatt; themed tours, stroll through the historic centre, enjoy the amazing views of the mountains, Mont Blanc and Mount Rosa, from the highest ski lift in Europe, take a trip on the Gornergrat Bahn (very old mountain railways) or even enjoy a helicopter ride. But certainly, one fabulous adventure that will stay with you forever is hiking to the foot of the famous Matterhorn – the mountain that has come to represent Zermatt. The hike is certainly an endurance challenge, and not something everyone can accomplish. But for those who do, you will have the perfect excuse to eat Toblerone chocolate, as its triangular shape is modelled on the picturesque and distinctive Matterhorn. You could argue that you need no excuse to eat beautiful Swiss chocolate, but to earn the right and eat the famous chocolate while looking up at the magnificent mountain is an experience to be found nowhere else.
